PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement pump or a variable speed motor capable of excellently maintaining lubricating performance while giving required hardness and lubricating function to the supporting member of a swash plate, ad reducing vibration and noise with a simple structure having a small number of components in the same way as a conventional structure while enhancing durability of a counterpart member forming the receiving surface of the supporting member. SOLUTION: A cylinder barrel 5 rotating together with a shaft 4 rotatably mounted in a housing 2, plural pistons 7, 7 disposed in the cylinder barrel 5 so that they can reciprocate in the same direction as the axial direction of the shaft 4, a swash plate 10 provided in the housing 2 so that its angle of inclination to the shaft 4 is adjustable while slidably supporting the tip parts of the plural pistons 7, 7, and a supporting member 12 of porous ceramics to support the swash plate 10 are provided. The supporting member 12 has a porosity of 1-30%, and the size of one pore is preferably not more than 50μm. A plastic containing solid lubricant and/or copper alloy having a lower melting point than that of ion or the like is preferably contained in the plural pores.
