PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new pyridyl derivative as a substance useful in the fields of medicines, agrochemicals, ligands, silver halide photosensitive materials, liquid crystals, surfactants, electrophotographies and organic electrolumiscences or an intermediate therefor. SOLUTION: This dipyridyl derivative is represented by the general formula (A) [wherein A1 and A2 may each be same or different and denote each an alkyl group or an aryl group; A1 and A2 may mutually be bonded to form a ring; and A3 denotes the following structure represented by formula AI and formula AII (wherein A4 and A5 may each be same or different and denote each hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group)].
