PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting method and device for a web of magnetic tape even having a magnetic film consisting of a metal thin layer having a high hardness such as a metal tape capable of preventing crack initiation at the time of cutting and performing high accuracy cutting operations. SOLUTION: A thin circular blade 2 and a thick circular blade 3 are installed on a pair of rotary shafts parallel in the axial direction at a spacing corresponding to the cutting width in such a way that their cutting edges are crossing, wherein the two rotary shafts are positioned opposing, and a resilient piece 5 is installed in a groove 6 provided in the thick blade 3 and engaged with the thin circular blade 2, and thereby a web 1 of magnetic tape running along the thick blade 3 is cut into specified width. It is arranged so that the cutting edge of the blade 2 crosses the cutting edge of the blade 3 in such a condition as contacting with the resilient piece 5. Thus the intended cutting device for magnetic tape web 1 is accomplished.
