PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a jig for joining steel plates which can easily joint two steel plates, and a steel plate joining method using the jig. SOLUTION: The jig for joining steel plates comprises a pulling jig 10 to pull two steel plates 41 and 42 close to each other, an overlapping jig for overlapping the other end of the two steel plates to be pulled to each other by this pulling jig on one of the two steel plates with a predetermined overlapping margin, and a fit-up jig to fit up the two steel plates to each other. The pulling jig includes a pulling tool 13 to pull a pair of engagement members 11 to be engaged with an end of the steel plates close to each other. The overlapping jig comprises an engagement part 21 to be engaged with an overlapping end part of one steel plate, an inclined part 22 with an end part of the other steel plate slidable thereon, and a stopper part 24. The fit-up jig includes an electromagnetic magnet.
