CLAMP FOR UMBILICAL CORD OF DOMESTIC ANIMAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clamp for the umbilical cords of domestic animals capable of easily and surely closing the umbilical cord of a young domestic animal such as a newly born calf and surely maintaining a clamped state over a period of several days. SOLUTION: The umbilical cord clamp 1 comprises an upper jaw 2 and a lower jaw 3 opened and closed about an axial fulcrum 4 and being lockable to each other by means of an engaging arm 9 and a locking projection 10. Upper ribs 7 are provided on the upper clamping plate 5 of the upper jaw 2, and lower ribs 8 are provided on the lower clamping plate 6 of the lower jaw 3 and in positions between the upper ribs 7. Sponges 11 are attached to the upper surfaces of the upper ribs 7 and the lower ribs 8. Thus, the clamp can be easily attached to the umbilical cord of a newly born calf and the umbilical cord can be quickly protected from the danger of infection.
