PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vane to be excellent in wear resistance, in a rotary compressor for an R22 refrigerant, an R134a refrigerant and a refrigerant substituting for R22. SOLUTION: A rotary compressor comprises a cylinder 17; a roller 18 eccentrically rotated in the cylinder 17 by a shaft 14; and a vane 20 inserted in a protruding manner into a through-groove 19 radially formed in the cylinder 17 and making slide contact with the roller 18. The vane 20 contains 9-27% Cr and is formed of an iron powder material having hardening properties containing 4% or more CO. Sintered iron having a single void having a void content of 10% or less is used as a base material. After a substrate is caused to form a martensite texture by quenching and tempering treatment, a compound layer formed of Fe-N is formed on a surface by nitriding or nitrocarburizing treatment and a nitrogen diffusion layer is formed on the inside thereof.
