PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic polycarbonate having an extremely high molecular weight and its preparation process. SOLUTION: This aromatic polycarbonate having an extremely high molecular weight of >=3×105 has a repeating unit of formula (I) (wherein R1 and R2 are identical to or different from each other and are each a halogen atom, a 1-5C alkyl group, a 6-10 aryl group or a substituted aryl group; and l and m are each 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4).
