PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handrail driving device for a man conveyor permitting the smooth, positive travel of a handrail belt and suppressing the formation of indentation on the surface of the handrail belt. SOLUTION: This driving device is provided with driving rollers 15 and pressure rollers 16. The pressure rollers 16 are energized by a spring mechanism 20 in a direction of coming in elastic contact with the driving rollers 15, and the driving rollers 15 are rotated to drive the handrail belt 13 by frictional force between the driving rollers 15 and the handrail belt 13 so as to endlessly travel in one direction. The driving device is provided with a belt mechanism 21 formed by extending an endless flat belt 23 between a pair of pulleys 22. A partial area of the flat belt 23 in the belt mechanism 21 is interposed between the pressure rollers 16 and the surface of the handrail belt 13, and the pressure rollers 16 are pressed to the handrail belt 18 through the flat belt 23 by the elastic energizing force of the spring mechanism 20.
