SURFACE MODIFYING FILLER FOR DENTAL USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filler which is capable of imparting to a dental composite material both of an excellent abrasion resistance and excellent glossiness after grinding without losing the characteristics such as mechanical strengths and hardness required as a dental material and to provide a preparing process thereof. SOLUTION: The inorganic filler is such that inorganic microparticles with an average particle diameter of 0.01 to 5μm have a surface covered with a polysiloxane. The process for preparing the above inorganic filler comprises (1) a wet-type pulverization process of finely pulverizing inorganic particles as a raw material into inorganic microparticles with an average particle diameter of 0.01 to 5μm, and (2) a process for forming a polysiloxane cover film on the surface of the inorganic microparticles obtained. A dental composition contains the above inorganic filler. Furthermore, a dental composition contains the above inorganic filler having a surface treated with an organosilane compound.
