PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous emulsion accompanying less bleedout, high in resistance to water and excellent in film forming property, requiring a relatively small amount of a polyether compound to achieve the said excellent characteristics, and, moreover, excellent in polymerization stability. SOLUTION: The method is provided for manufacturing an aqueous emulsion by emulsion polymerization of vinyl ester based monomers, characterized in that acting as dispersant are a vinyl alcohol based polymer (A) and a polyether compound (B) obtained by addition polymerization of an alkylene oxide in the presence of a hydrotalcite or the like treated with a compound containing active hydrogens in its molecules.
