PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a formed part made of amorphous alloy having improved wear resistance in addition to excellent characteristics inherent in amorphous alloy, and a surface hardening technology therefor. SOLUTION: A formed part composed essentially of amorphous alloy is heat treated under a reactive-gas-containing atmosphere and under the conditions of temperature and time within the amorphous region of the isothermal transformation curve (TTT curve) of the material, by which a ceramic hard layer is formed on the surface of the formed part. For example, the heat treatment is carried out under the atmosphere containing >=1 ppm oxygen or/and nitrogen or under the air atmosphere at a temperature not lower than the lowest temperature in the oxidizing reaction or nitriding reaction of at least one constituent element of the base material itself. By this heat treatment, a ceramic hard layer 51 containing the oxide or/and nitride of at least one constituent element of a base material 50 itself can be formed in such a way that the content of the oxide or/and nitride is gradually decreased in the direction of depth from the surface toward the base material in <=10μm surface roughness variation and/or size variation. |
