PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing head protecting apparatus for an ink jet printer capable of preventing not only the clogging of nozzles but also the color mixture of ink at the time of starting and capable of reducing the waste of ink. SOLUTION: A printing head protecting apparatus is equipped with a cap 5 covering the printing surface 1a of the printing head of an ink jet printer at the time of non-printing operation, a cap transfer mechanism 15 allowing the cap 5 to advance or retreat with respect to the printing surface 1a of the printing head 1 and a main control part 17A for controlling the operation of the cap transfer mechanism 15 in a predetermined timing. A moisture retaining liquid supply mechanisms for supplying a predetermined amount of a moisture retaining liquid to the cap is provided in the cap and the main control part 17A has a liquid supply operation control function for controlling the operation of the moisture retaining liquid supply mechanism 4 in a predetermined timing. |
