PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator having a tolerance for the adjustment of a rope extension and capable of suppressing an increase of maintenance cost. SOLUTION: In an elevator having a hoist 106 at the bottom part of a shaft 101 and hoisting up and down a rope 104 driven by the hoist 106 through converting pulleys 110 and 111 installed at the top part of the shaft 101 while the rope suspends a car 102 installed in the shaft 101 and a balance weight 103 are suspended by the rope, the converting pulley 110 is installed on a pulley beam 123 displaceably in the height direction.
