摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EGR system for an internal combustion engine which effectively and efficiently cools exhaust gas in the EGR system. SOLUTION: The EGR system for an internal combustion engine has an independent auxiliary high temperature cooling loop 44 in addition to a main cooling loop 42. In the auxiliary cooling loop, cooling agent is made to flow through an auxiliary high temperature exhaust gas cooler arranged on an upstream side of a main exhaust gas cooler 38. A large quantity of heat is transferred from the exhaust gas to the cooling agent in the auxiliary high temperature cooling loop. The heat absorbed by the high temperature cooling agent is removed in an auxiliary high temperature radiator 52. The heat absorbed by the main cooling agent is removed in a main radiator 46. Two radiators occupy front area the same as the case of a single radiator used in a conventional single stage EGR, but wholly exhaust larger quantity of heat to peripheral environment.
