PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the defective area of a signal recording medium and to prevent data from being recorded in the defective area. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk device has a function for opening a reading gate at timing using the servo timing mark 112 of a servo field 110 as a reference, reproducing data from a second data file 102b, and opening the reading gate at prescribed timing when the servo timing mark 112 cannot be detected, reproducing data from the second data field 102b and allocating the logic address of the sector of the second data field 102b, which corresponds to the servo timing mark 112, to an exchange sector again.
