PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a guest-host reflection type liquid crystal display element high in contrast and thin in thickness. SOLUTION: In the guest-host reflection type liquid crystal display element provided with a quarter-wave p late, the quarter-wave plate consists of optically anisotropic layers A and B and one of them is a layer formed from liquid crystalline molecules and the other is a layer or a polymer film formed from liquid crystalline molecules. And, the wide band quarter-wave plate is used, whose values of retardation value/wavelength measured at 480 nm, 550 nm and 630 nm wavelength are in the range of 0.2-0.3 respectively. |
