PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of charging a sodium-sulfur battery wherein mid-night electric power is used for a short time to charge the battery to such a degree that it doesn't damage the normal single cell so as to keep large discharging capacity for a day-time charging. SOLUTION: In an assembled battery in which specified numbers of single cells of a sodium-sulfur battery are connected in series for constructing a string, specified numbers of the strings are connected in parallel with each other for constructing a block, specified numbers of the blocks as units are connected in series, the assembled battery is charged up to a charging end cut voltage which is regulated by an open voltage of the single cell, an ohmic voltage represented by electric current multiplied by resistance, and a charging end polarization voltage. After a main charge as a first step, the assembled battery is sub-charged in step manners by a voltage lower than that at the main charge.
