PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the capacity of a buffer memory and to execute a sufficient number of times of retry by setting the total number of times of retry with respect to a series of input/output requests in a disk control system where a disk controller and a disk device are connected through a bus for disk interface such as IDE and SCSI. SOLUTION: An I/O request processing means 12 divides an I/O request supplied from an I/O request means 11 into plural commands, issues them to a disk device 20 and executed the response processing. A setting means 14 for the total maximum number of times of retry calculates the total maximum number of times of retry, which can be permitted for plural commands based on the processing limit time of the input/output request, disk device processing time in an error absence state and one retry processing time, and sets the total maximum number of times of retry in the disk device 20. When an error occurs, the disk device 20 repeats retry in the range of the total maximum number of times of retry.
