PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clutch mechanism and differential device which can be formed compact facilitate lubrication and improve durability, and perform precise control of transmission torque. SOLUTION: This differential device comprises a torque transmission member 3, a division ring 9 for forming a main clutch 11 and a pilot clutch 13 between the member 3 and the division ring, torque transmission members 7 and 5 coupled at spline parts 23 to the ring pieces 21 of the division ring 9, and an electromagnet 15 for engaging the clutch 13 by pressing the ring pieces 21 against the member 3. When the clutch 13 is engaged, transmission torque is exerted on the spline part 23, and each ring piece 21 is pressed against the member 3 by a generating thrust force, and the clutch 11 is engaged.
