PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveform generator that can generate a desired signal waveform without incurring a large circuit scale and complicated control contents. SOLUTION: This waveform generator is provided with a signal generating sections 11 that generates an optical waveform, a digital/analog converter 12 that applies digital/analog conversion to the waveform from the signal generating section 11, and a smoothing filter 15 that cuts off an image included in an output of the digital/analog converter 12 and changes its cut-off frequency by variably controlling gains of variable gain amplifiers VGA1, 2.
