PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a quick shift while preventing a shift shock at shift time by a regrip of four engaging elements. SOLUTION: In this automatic transmission requiring actuation of four engaging elements when shifting to a second shift stage (a third speed stage) from a first shift stage (a sixth speed stage), a shift control device has a shift control means for starting a release of a second engaging element C-2 after starting a release of a first engaging element B-1, completing engagement of a fourth engaging element C-3 after completing engagement of a third engaging element C-1 and starting a release of the second engaging element C-2 before completing engagement of the third engaging element C-1.
