<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position input device capable of pointing out a position of a pointer on a computer screen as well as a mouse by operating a roller at a part exposed from a casing by hand. SOLUTION: A bearing 3 is mounted on the casing 1 so that the roller 4 is freely rotated and slid in the rotating direction and the axis direction. Rotation quantity and slide quantity of the roller 4 are detected by a sensor 5 provided at the lower part by providing fine repeated patterns on the surface of the roller 4. The bearing 3 is mounted through a supporting component 2 so that the roller 4 is slightly moved up and down, is pressed on the upper direction by a spring and arranged so that a switch 36 is depressed by motion of the supporting member 2. A signal in proportion to the motion of a hand is outputted by rotating and sliding the roller 4 by hand. In addition, pointing operation is performed by depressing the roller 4.</p> |
