摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method for manufacturing an optical waveguide substrate having core parts of fine patterns by forming an intermediate cladding layer, using a press forming method and preventing the degradation in transfer accuracy occurring in thermal expansion and a method for manufacturing the optical waveguide parts connected with optical fibers. SOLUTION: A plate 12, consisting of a thermoplastic resin or low m.p. glass, is placed on a lower cladding layer 11 consisting of a plane glass substrate 10. The plate 12 is softened by heating and is pressed by using a press mold having wire-shaped projecting parts of a core shape, by which the intermediate cladding layer 13 having groove parts 14 is formed. Next, a transparent resin 15 varying in refractive indices is packed into the groove parts 14 to form the cores 18. A upper cladding layer 17 consisting of a plane glass 12 is fixed thereon, by which the optical waveguide substrate is manufactured.
