PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video reproduction device that can prevent a monitor from being burnt in the case of letter box display. SOLUTION: The video reproduction device generates a video signal where a video display area is in existence in the middle of the image by the video signal and letter box areas are in existence in non-video image display areas that is the upper and lower parts of the video display area. The video reproduction device is provided with a storage means that temporarily stores video data, a 1st video signal generating means 53 that generates the video signal to display video image of a frame on a normal area on a screen from the video data, a 2nd video signal generating means 51 that generates video signals from the video data that are displayed on upper and lower portions of the normal position of the screen differently by each frame, and a video signal output means 52 that outputs the 1st and 2nd video signals.
