1283566 Grinding; work rests LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc 19 Dec 1969 [8 July 1969] 61884/69 Headings B3D and B3T A workrest for a grinding machine 10 or other machine tool comprises a yoke 24 pivoted by a shaft 25 to a base member 15, a support member 34 pivoted to the base member 15 and the yoke 24 by respective shafts 35, 46, and a work shoe 56, positionable relative to a workpiece w by adjustment of at least one of the shafts 35, 46 to effect controlled shifting of the support member 34. The base member 15 is slidably securable on a guide 13 of a work-table 11 by a clamp member 17 and the shoe 56, having workpiece-engaging portions 60; 61, is releasably secured to the member 34 by at least one fastener 58. The shafts 35, 46 each have an eccentric portion 38, 50 on which the support member 34 is journalled, adjustment screws 42, 43, 53, 54 extending into recesses 41, 52 in these portions, Figs. 5-6 (not shown). Adjustment of the screws 42, 43 rotates the shaft 35 in the base 15 and the member 34, the eccentric portion 38 causing substantially horizontal movement of the shoe 56, while adjustment of the screws 53, 54'rotates the shaft 46 in the yoke 24 and the member 34, causing a generally vertical movement of the shoe 56, conbined adjustments allowing a required setting of the shoe 56. An upper locating shoe mechanism 70, Fig. 8, includes a shoe 82, adjustable on a support 78 pivoted on a shaft 77 of a cradle 71, and operatively urged towards the workpiece w by 'a spring 85; a link 73 pivotally supports the cradle 71 on the shaft 25. Links 87, pivoted on the shaft 77 and bearing an operating handle 94, allow adjustment of the cradle 71 between operative, Fig. 8, and inoperative, Fig. 9 (not shown), positions, governed by an over-centre linkage 86 pivoted at 89 to the base member 15. A spray guard 100 is provided to protect the operator from coolant spray during grinding. Alternatively, Figs. 10-11 (not shown), the upper locating shoe mechanism may be actuated by hydraulic or pneumatic means, either automatically or under manual control. |
