<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a durable optical memory device coated with a polymer by using a ferroelectric liquid crystal substance. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing optical memory device comprises acquiring at least 5 mm2 electrode region by forming patterns with various shapes and arrangements by lithography on a glass substrate coated with indium tin oxide, baking the glass substrate with the formed patterns and a substrate coated with a polymer selected from a polyamide group consisting of nylon 6/6 and 6/9, strongly rubbing the coated surface, coating one of the substrates with a spacer of 1-3μm thickness selected from photoresists, inserting the ferroelectric liquid crystal substance in the space between the glass substrates, sealing the glass substrates at the periphery and fixing a polarizer and an analyzer on the respective nonconductive surfaces of the glass plates. An electric field is applied to the sandwiched substrates to attain a stable motion of the memory element and AC and DC fields are applied to the device. The optical memory device is provided with at least one year of the life of the memory element.</p> |
