PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device particularly useful for a liquid crystal display and so on, offering an increase in brightness without an increase in demand or heating value. SOLUTION: The lighting device comprises a light source, a light guide element near the side face of which the light source is mounted, having a surface from which a light introduced from the light source via the side face is guided at almost uniform brightness, and a light reflecting element of insulating material arranged around the light source and adapted to introduce a light from the light source into the side face with a reflectivity of 98% or more.
