PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To heighten the storing density of a spent nuclear fuel assembly by effectively using a control rod insert space and a measurement rod insert space existing in a spent nuclear fuel assembly for PWR to shorten the distance for securing subcriticality between the spent nuclear fuel assemblies. SOLUTION: In a reactor, an absorbing rod 11 having the substantially same shape as a column-like control rod used in controlling the reactivity of a reactor core and a neutron shield capability is inserted in a control rod guide pipe and a measuring pipe of the nuclear fuel assembly 1.
