PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized inexpensive transmitter-receiver by using a variable frequency multiplier in common use for transmission and reception in place of a multiplier for the transmission and reception so as to eliminate the need for either of the transmission and reception multipliers thereby reducing the power consumption. SOLUTION: The transmitter-receiver that is provided with a reference oscillator, a transmission section having a 1st frequency conversion means that converts a frequency of a transmission signal and with a reception section adopting a superheterodyne system having a 2nd frequency conversion means that converts a frequency of a received signal, is provided with a variable frequency multiplier that multiplies an output signal from the reference oscillator. The transmitter-receiver is characterized is that the variable frequency multiplier supplies the local oscillation frequency signal whose frequency is converted into a prescribed transmission frequency to the 1st frequency conversion means in the case of transmission and the variable frequency multiplier supplies the local oscillation frequency signal whose frequency is converted into a prescribed reception frequency to the 2nd frequency conversion means in the case of reception.
