PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To find an internal distribution of scattered/absorbed light in a subject without being affected by internal scatter/absorption or by the distance between light transmitting and receiving parts. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a plurality of combinations of a light transmitting means 2 for transmitting light to the subject 1 and a light receiving means 3 for receiving light transmitted from the subject 1, a light signal intensity detecting means 4 for detecting a light intensity signal of the light transmitted by the subject 1, a light signal correcting means 5 for normalizing the transmitted light by the average optical path length between the means 2, 3 to correct the intensity signal and obtaining a light intensity signal depending only on the state of absorption, and an internal distribution computing means 6 for finding the internal distribution in the subject 1 by a computation based on the disposition of the means 2, 3 and on the corrected intensity signal. The normalization of the intensity signal using the path length corrects the effects of internal scatter/absorption or of the distance between the light transmitting and receiving parts to find the intensity signal depending only on the state of absorption. This intensity signal is processed according to the disposition of the means 2, 3, thus finding the internal distribution in the subject 1.
