<p>A device by a potato peeling machine comprises an upwardly open vessel (10) placed in a bottom member (25), a lid (12) and a rotary peeling member (18) having at least one upwardly facing, rough grinding surface (20) peeling potatoes set into motion within the vessel (10) by means of the peeling member (18). The peeling member (18) is attached to a shaft (16) and rotated by means of a drive device in the bottom member (25). The drive device comprises a paddle wheel (28) attached to the shaft (16) and positioned within an impeller housing (34) in the bottom member (25). The paddle wheel (28) is rotated by water supplied through a supply channel (38). The paddle wheel (28) has radially displaceable paddle boards (30) urged to rest against the wall of the impeller housing (34). In an area at the inlet of the supply channel (38), the impeller housing (34) has a radially widened portion decreasing in respect of radial extent in a direction away from the inlet, so that the water speed increases when the paddle wheel moves the water through the widened portion (32) of the impeller housing (34).</p> |
