Production of a R-Fe-B rare earth metal magnet comprises pressing a rare earth metal alloy powder having an oxygen content of 4000 wt.-ppm or less by dry compressing under pressure to form a molded part; impregnating the molded part with an oil agent on the surface of the molded part; and sintering. Preferred Features: The average size of the rare earth metal alloy powder is 10 mu m or less and is kept in an inert gas atmosphere having an oxygen concentration of 5000 vol.-ppm or less until the powder is poured into the hollow chamber of a press to form the molded part.
