<p>Transgenic non-human mammals which have a DNA encoding a foreign reporter gene for monitoring a change in the calcium ion concentration in cells and express this reporter protein in one or more types of non-nerve cells; a method of constructing the above transgenic non-human mammals; a method of detecting a change in the calcium ion concentration in cells by using the above transgenic non-human mammals; a DNA having a promoter activity to be used in the construction; and a method of utilizing this DNA. The non-human mammals as described above, which express the above DNA in one or more tissues or organs selected from the group consisting of epithelial tissues, binding tissues, fat tissues, cartilage tissues, bone tissues, muscle tissues, oral cavity tissues, blood tissues, bone marrow, circulatory organs, lymphoid tissues, teeth, digestive organs, liver, gall, pancreas, respiratory organs, urinary organs, genital organs, endocrine organs, sensory organs and nails, are usable in evaluating the pharmacological effects and activities of physiologically active substances (for example, drugs), novel gene products with unknown functions, etc.</p> |
