Production of a metallurgical toughened bond between a coated insert and a casting material comprises applying a first thin layer of a first metallic material to the insert; applying a second thin layer of a second preferably metallic material to the first thin layer; and casting the casting material against the surface of the insert. Casting is carried out in such conditions that the metallurgical bond between the insert and the first metallic material is maximized and to achieve a bonding strength and/or of more than 8000 psi. An Independent claim is also included for the cast part produced.
