The practice ammunition is a sub-caliber solid shot with a penetrator (2) of heavy metal with a bonded ballistic nose cap (10). The nose cap is given an aerodynamic braking action by a shrouding cap (3), with a shape structure to give air resistance in flight and reduce the range of flight which would normally be achieved by the ballistic shape of the shot. The dia. (18) of the air-resistant leading surface (17) of the air braking cap (3) is larger than the max. dia. (19) of the shot. The brake nose cap (3) is of a lightweight material such as plastics or metal, or a mixture material.
