Sterilization of foodstuffs and like residues, especially animal wastes, is effected in vessels of the type used in the manufacture of Ca silicate binders, especially those used in the calcareous sandstone or porous concrete industries where the products are hardened in the presence of steam at up to 20 bar pressure.
