The invention relates to an alternating motor with starter, wherein the starting element is a capacitor or capacitor bank which connects between power source and motor. When it starts step by step, capacitive reactance will decrease step by step. The capacitor may be used as power factor compensating element when the motor is in normal running. When lockedrotor fault occurs, low power consuming current limiting capability of the capacitor can protect the motor from burning out. The starter has advantages of low starting power consuming, simple structure and low cost. This satisfies the requirement of compensation in situ. The utilization efficiency of the elements is high.
