The projection system uses a number of imaging matrices (5), with a processor converting the overall image into a number of partial images, so that each image point of the overall image is contained within only one of the partial images, each of which is provided by a respective imaging matrix. An imaging lens (6) is associated with each imaging matrix, the partial images combined via a mirror device, to provide a combined image at the image plane of a common projection objective (1).
