The machine to lay slabs automatically, on roads and sidewalks, has wheels (1) which can be steered and a grip mechanism (2) which takes the slabs from a prepared stack singly or in simultaneous multiples. The control (4) determines where slabs have already been removed from the stack, and where the next slab extraction is possible. The machine lays the slabs in programmed positions and alignments with the required laying movements, in a pattern which does not need to conform with the pattern of the slabs on the pallet. The control computes the theoretical position, alignment and laying movement for the slab, according to the laying pattern, the dimensions of the surface to be covered and the dimensions of the slab.
