Production of granules made of a melt comprises removing a melt from a container using a jet of liquid or vaporous water; inserting the mixture of melt and water into a chamber; blocking the chamber to prevent backflow of the mixture until a prescribed pressure in the region between the pressure of the jet and the surrounding pressure has been adjusted; and continuously introducing the mixture into a jet mill while maintaining the chamber pressure. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for carrying out the process comprising a vessel (3) for the melt (4); a nozzle (1) directly above the melt; and an outlet at the base of the vessel with a connection (8a, 8b) between the outlet (6) after the barrier (7) to the mill.
