The invention features a method for resuming real-time display of continuous video programming after a pause interval during which the video programming is recorded on a medium. In response to a pause-resume command, a playback signal is produced from the recording medium wherein the playback signal contains only selected picture blocks comprising less than all the recorded video programming. In one arrangement, the invention can read a picture block, display all the pictures in the block and then skip a predetermined number of blocks. In another arrangement, the invention can read all blocks and display a predetermined number of pictures. In another arrangement, the invention can read a predetermined number of blocks, skip a predetermined number of blocks and then display a predetermined number of pictures from the blocks that are read. |
