Actual and demand signals are fed to the regulator with different gains selected synchronously for both depending on whether a threshold is exceeded or otherwise by one of the signals, preferably the demand signal. The regulator has .an electrically driven pressure control device that controls an output pressure depending on an electrical control parameter, a pressure sensor for measuring the output pressure and converting it into an electrical actual value signal and an electronic regulator that compares the actual value signal with the output pressure demand signal and sets the control parameter depending on the control difference. The actual and demand signals are fed to the regulator with different gains selected synchronously for both depending on whether a threshold is exceeded or otherwise by one of the signals, preferably the demand signal.
