The reservoir (5) release mechanism is arranged on the writing side so the actuator (4) for the mechanism can be triggered by the finger of writing hand or again by the writers thumb. Reservoir release and protection are operated by the release mechanism simply and without reservoir retraction etc and without rotation of the pen barrel. The release mechanism lies at the top of the pen, the release mechanism and actuator fitted separately by means of the spring (6). The actuator (4) is fitted to the outside of the housing (1) and the mechamism inside the housing to complete with the actuator a mechanical unit so the mechanism moves up into its releasing position when the actuator is moved forward by the finger. The spring (6) exerts permanent pressure on the release mechanism to ensure the mechanism rides back down after use to close off the reservoir.
