An illuminable accessory item (10) having an illuminating unit (72) included within the structure of the accessory item (10) so that the illuminating unit (72) is illuminated upon exertion of pressure on a specific trigger point (69) on the accessory item. A pressure-activated actuator (70) that controls the illumination of the illuminating unit is activated when pressure is applied to the trigger point (69). The actuator (70) comprises a circuit board (700), that, in combination with the illuminating unit (72), a trigger (65) and one or more power sources (730), forms a closed circuit that delivers electrical current to the illuminating unit. One or more embodiments of the invention further include an ornamental fixture (9) that is preferably transparent or translucent and can be used as a cover for the illuminating unit. When the illuminating unit is lit, its illumination is visible through the transparent or translucent portions of the ornamental fixture. A spring-motivated mechanism (3) may be used to slidably control the movement of a writing unit disposed within the structure of the accessory item in a predetermined protracted or retracted position.
