A sample processing plate e.g. a microtitre plate 4, is covered with a frame 2 which has a slidable blind 6 with opening(s) 7 through which liquid can be e.g pipetted into the wells 5 of the plate. A gas feed 1 in the covering frame supplies contamination free gas into the space between the plate 4 and blind 6. The sliding of the blind 6 permits different locations of the plate to be accessed by the pipette. The presence of the gas in the space between the blind and plate allows contaminant free transfer of liquid specimens e.g. DNA samples to the wells of the plate. |
