<p>The compsns. contain a sugar mixed with the juice, and opt. the pulp, of Ananas conosus, which contain proteolytic enzymes of vegetal origin, known as bromelains. They are useful in the treatment of gastro-intestinal disorders, esp. chronic or acute forms of inflammation of the gastric mucous membrane. They may be in the form of a pharmaceutical contg. sugar mixed with chemically purified bromelains, or in the form of a food product, esp. a syrup contg. a mixt. of sugar and pineapple juice.</p> |
