Method for creation of a three dimensional digital scale model from two two-dimensional images, otherwise known as a stereoscopic image couple. The invention is for large scale objects such as buildings or open air sites. Method comprises the following steps: calibration of the image sensor, for each configuration, for intrinsic parameters such as focal length, optical center, distortion coefficients of the objective; recording of at least two images of the scene to be modeled, taking into account of distortion parameters, determination of the epipolar geometry of an image pair from corresponding pairs of points in the two images, calculation of movement (position and orientation) of one view with respect to the other of a pair of images from the intrinsic parameters of the sensor and the epipolar geometry; recovery of the Euclidean digital scale model by rectification and then automatic correlation of an image pair if required and conversion into a Euclidean geometry using the epipolar geometry and the calculated intrinsic parameters; linking by triangulation points on the surface using the initial views. |
