Groups of at least two conventional supports (6) are arranged without intermediate spacing in the tanks (4). Preferred Features: Supports are arranged in groups 100-300 mm long, measured along the direction of extrusion. 4-10 supports form a close group. Spacing between individual groups increases along the direction of extrusion. There are four or more groups, located on a guide (5) running along the tank. The tank (containing e.g. water) is subjected to reduced pressure. Supports are arranged in tanks (4) the pressure in each reducing slightly, along the direction of extrusion. Only one or two dry calibrators (3) are provided. In place of groups of elements, a support equal in length to the groups is provided. The support has through-holes running in the direction of extrusion, to cool the plastic profile.
