Process for preparing acetic acid by reacting ethylene with oxygen

In the present invention there is described a process for preparing acetic acid by reacting ethylene with oxygen. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (a) metallic palladium and (b) at least one compound being selected from a group comprising heteropolyacids and their salts in molar ration of components (a) : (b) = 1 : 500, whereby ethylene and oxygen are brought into reaction at a temperature ranging from 100 to 250 degC under pressure in the range of to 30 MPa.
