In the present invention there is disclosed a method of operating a refrigerating plant. The operation method is characterized in that as a coolant there is used an aqueous solution of potassium formate, whereby at the coolant temperature ranging from -15 to -30 degC the concentration of salt in the solution ranges from 30 to 40 percent by weight of and at the coolant temperature ranging from -30 to -55 degC the concentration of salt in the solution ranges from 40 to 55 percent by weight. 1,2,4-triazole at concentration ranging from 10 to 2000 ppm, preferably 500 to 1500 ppm or alternatively borax at concentration ranging from 500 to 2500 ppm, preferably 1000 to 1500 ppm, functioning as inhibitors can be added in the coolant.
